Bedford Born,
Stage Bound.
Kaylen’s journey started right here in Bedford. The youngest child with two older sisters, Kaylen was always full of energy, but it wasn’t until he joined Stagecoach Bedford at age five that we realized where that energy belonged. What started as a way to express himself through singing and dancing quickly became a lifelong passion. By the age of seven, he had already stepped into his first professional role, and he hasn’t looked back since.
Finding His Voice through AuDHD
As many parents of neurodivergent children know, the early school years can be a challenge. Kaylen is AuDHD (Autistic and ADHD), and for a long time, the traditional classroom felt like a place where he didn’t quite fit. He struggled to concentrate, to find the right words for his feelings, and to connect with those around him.
But when Kaylen stepped onto a stage, the world finally made sense. Performing became his safe haven – a space where he could regulate his emotions, channel his focus, and truly be himself. On stage, his differences aren’t hurdles; they are his greatest strengths.
The Journey So Far
From Bedford to the West End
Over the last few years, Kaylen’s dedication has taken him on a whirlwind journey. From his early days at Stagecoach Bedford to training at Arts1 in Milton Keynes and more recently with the team at Stagebox, he has worked tirelessly to hone his craft.
His professional path has been a series of “pinch-me” moments. At eight, he made his TV debut in The Midwich Cuckoos, followed by roles in The Pact, Trying, and more recently, Criminal Record and the film 7 Keys. His theatre career includes his debut as Fletcher in The Bodyguard UK tour and playing Eric in Matilda the Musical in the West End. Today, he is incredibly proud to be performing as Young Simba in The Lion King.
Grit, Passion, and Gaming
Each role is a testament to Kaylen’s grit. Whether he’s working alongside actors like Peter Capaldi, Paul Rudd and Keeley Hawes, or rehearsing at home, he brings his full authenticity and courage to everything he does. Away from the lights, Kaylen is still just a 12-year-old boy who loves the simple things – spending time outdoors with his family or lost in the world of gaming and computers.
The Tring Park Chapter
In 2025, Tring Park School for the Performing Arts – one of the most prestigious performing arts schools in the country – awarded Kaylen a Talent Scholarship. That’s Tring Park saying: we see something special here, and we want to invest in it.
Tring Park is more than just a great school for Kaylen. It’s an environment that genuinely understands neurodivergent students – where he can train at the highest level without having to pretend to be someone he’s not. For a kid like Kaylen, that’s rare. And it matters enormously.
After years of hard work, Kaylen recently reached a major crossroads. He auditioned for Tring Park School for the Performing Arts and was invited back for their full professional course scholarship. Despite the financial barriers that often stand in the way of vocational training, Kaylen’s talent shone through, and just a week later, he was offered a scholarship. This move to Tring Park isn’t just about a school; it’s about giving Kaylen the environment he needs to turn his passion into a future.
Upcoming: BBC’s Stage Stars
Kaylen hasn’t just arrived at Tring Park—he’s already making waves. During his induction day, Kaylen was selected to feature in Series 2 of the BBC documentary series “Stage Stars.”
Following a highly anticipated first series, cameras will follow Kaylen and his fellow new Year 7 recruits throughout the academic year. The 13-episode documentary series will capture the reality of stage school life, showing exactly what it takes to balance rigorous academic studies with putting on elite theatre productions.
Catch Kaylen in Series 2, launching on BBC iPlayer and BBC Worldwide in October 2026.
